I’m very happy to distribute everything you need to make beautiful Mountmellick embroidery with the real traditional material. Everything is on the site Et Brode le Papillon...

This type of embroidery is originating from the village of Mountmellick in Ireland. It is part of the big family of white embroidery. The striking effect is produced by the use of a thick matt thread on a cotton satin, a fabric with a bit of sheen. For more information have a look at this site.

You will found three different size of the very special Mountmellick thread made in the UK for Vetty Creations. Each size comes in small or large skein. The thread is 100% cotton, it is matt.

For the cotton satin, you can go for the very traditional choice with a white fabric. You’ll find other colours if you prefer something more trendy.

Mountmellick work has always a border made with a knitted fringe. To knit it, you will need a thread very similar to the embroidery thread. I have what Vetty Creations has been made in Australia.

And finally, you will found inspiration with her book : Mountmellick Embroidery, inspired by nature.

I created a kit for you to try Mountmellick embroidery to embellish a dining table with a modern design with a composition of daisy. With this kit, you will learn eight different stitches.

To design the banner I used designs from « Art Nouveau Designs » edited by The Pepin Press Agile Rabbit Editions. It is a set of a book and a CD-ROM. They both contain the designs in colour with no comments. It is very useful to work with pictures on the computer. Their collection is very interesting, with designs from China, Turkey, Japan, etc.. fashion, flowers etc…

That’s the design of the butterfly I used, here the size is reduced. It’s on the blog with the authorisation of the publisher.
